In a quiet meadow, under a blanket of stars, lived a little firefly named Flicker. Unlike all the other fireflies who loved to dance in the night, Flicker was afraid of the dark. When the sun went down, he would hide under a large leaf, keeping his own light turned down low.

One night, a kind old owl named Hoot saw Flicker trembling. "Little one," Hoot said gently, "why do you hide your light? " Flicker confessed his fear. Hoot smiled wisely and said, "But your light is made for the darkness. It is what makes you special. Try letting it shine. "
Taking a deep breath, Flicker let his light glow brighter and brighter. He saw that his light didn't get lost in the dark; it made the darkness beautiful. He joined the other fireflies, and his light was the brightest of all, a tiny star dancing in the night.
